About Our School

Oakley Elementary School is one of 100 schools in the Fulton County School district. The Fulton County School System is one of the most unique school systems in the nation.

As the fourth largest school system in Georgia, and the largest charter district, Fulton has more than 13,000 full-time employees, including more than 6,800 teachers and other certified personnel, who work in 100 schools and 14 administrative and support buildings.

Oakley is located in Union City, Georgia.  It was built in 2007 on land donated by D.R. Horton Real Estate Incorporated in Oakley Township, which bears the school name.  Oakley ES was built to relieve the overcrowding of Campbell ES, E.C. West ES, and S.L. Lewis ES. Our original enrollment topped at 950 students, which was reduced by about 200 students due to redistricting in 2008.

Oakley Elementary provides a rigorous and relevant instructional program with emphasis also on building relationships.  In addition, to the focus on Georgia's Standards of Excellence and researched-based best practices, we also enrich our students with many opportunities to participate in extra-curricular activities such as field trips, school assemblies, spirit weeks, Career Day, etc. We have a host of school clubs that students can take part in as well, including Jr. BETA, Student Council, Science Olympiad, Girls with Purpose, Boys with Swag and Fit 4 Us.  Students are recognized for their achievements in and outside of the classroom during our monthly Town Hall Meetings, End of the Year Award ceremonies and through displays of work throughout the building.

Parents are very important to our children’s success.  We provide various opportunities, coordinated by our Title I Parent Liaison, to obtain their input in the school decision-making process through PTA, School Governance Council (SGC), and surveys.  We keep parents informed through our website, phone messenger, and monthly newsletters.  Curriculum Night, Math Night, Literacy Night and Ga Milestones Night are a few programs offered to support family education. Our parent volunteer numbers and hours steadily increase due to the coordination of our Parent Liaison, also.

The staff at Oakley Elementary is committed and dedicated to making a difference for all our children.  Several of our staff members have been with us since 2007, with an average of ten years experienced.  All teachers are either in or have completed post-graduate work for masters’ degrees, specialists’ degrees, or doctorates.

Technology has come to Oakley Elementary School in many forms. Through various funding (Title I, grants, PTA, General Budget) many new computers, printers, scanners, Epson Boards, handheld devices, and a wide variety of software are available to students and staff to support of students from "crayons to college”. The Media Center is fully automated with scanners to process check-in/outs and inventory control.  Through technology, our teachers have easy and quick access to student data to improve instruction to meet individual needs through differentiation and increase student achievement.

We are very proud of our various partnerships. Our partnership with the Fulton County Sheriff’s Department has brought the G.R.EA.T. (Gang Resistance and Education Training) to our fifth graders to promote character building/anti-bullying and positive decision-making.  Other partners that have supported Oakley Elementary through financial contributions, certificates, recognition coupons are Subway; Smart Kids are Us, Chick-fil-A, and McDonalds.  Their generous donation of both time and money has helped each and every student at Oakley Elementary School.
